STEAL MY PRETTY SKIN SECRETS!

My aunts at the gardens

Recently, a nurse said I must be related to these two ladies because we all have such great skin.

Aren’t my aunts the cutest?!

It’s true, we all look pretty fab. My grandmother did too!

I chalk it up to good genes, relatively clean living and essential oils.

I’m always asked about my skin, so I thought I’d share some of our “secrets.”

Hydrate!

Basil cardamom teaWater … water and more water!

That’s my number one.

When I don’t drink enough water, the first place i see it is on my skin! I aim for at least 90 ounces a day.

If you’re not a fan of water, you can add fruits, vegetables, herbs and essential oils — anything to help you drink more!

Strawberry and basil is my favorite combo!

You can even make a yummy tea with just hot water, cardamom pods and mint — great if you want to increase your water intake with something warm.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potato

One auntie super-loves to eat sweet potatoes in all forms … but especially loves them baked.

This dish from The Live In Kitchen is full of protein and vitamins that are great for your skin. Click the picture for the recipe!

Here’s why your body loves sweet potatoes!

They are full of beta carotene. That’s an antioxidant that turns into Vitamin A. This helps to protect our skin from free radicals and promotes glowing skin. When your skin is dull and dry, that can mean a Vitamin A deficiency.

Sweet potatoes are also great at promoting proper gut health, healthy vision, immune support, and improved brain function. When your body feels good and is good on the inside, you can’t help but show it on the outside!

Tomatoes are an aunt’s BFF

My other aunt is all about tomato sandwiches! She loves them and probably had no idea how great they are for her skin.

They’re phenomenal for your skin when used topically, but eating them is also amazing. This delicious fruit can give you up to 40% of your daily recommended dose of Vitamin C (hello immune system!) and a ton of Vitamin A, which we talked about above.

Tomatoes also have Lycopene which helps to keep your skin firm and youthful. You’ll get the highest concentration of Lycopene from cooked tomatoes, so click below for a healthful recipe from Climbing Grier Mountain using tomatoes and asparagus.

Caprese Roasted Asparagus is a lovely spring dish perfect for Easter Dinner! Roasted asparagus topped with mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and a balsamic glaze. This will definitely be a hit!

Spirulina for my win!

I love spirulina! It’s blue-green algae that is chock full of vitamins and minerals. Spirulina is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet and ticks so many of my pretty skin boxes!

  • Immune system
  • Provides nourishment for the brain
  • Supports the production of energy and blood cells
  • Destroys bacteria and viruses.
  • Makes skin look toned, youthful and vital
  • Treats flabby skin by eliminating the body’s metabolic waste products
  • Effective in treating dark circles and dry eye symptoms
  • Slows down the ageing of skin cells
  • Facilitates faster cell turnover that helps skin heal faster
  • Helps speed up hair growth

Here’s my recipe for super healthy and super delicious spirulina popcorn!

For my makeup lovers!

Unlike my aunts, I wear makeup and I love it! I don’t wear a ton, but I still need proper removal methods and hydration.

Jasmin at Mt. Etna

I make sure to cleanse my face twice a day — before bed and upon waking. I love my chilled micellar water at night. French ladies have been swearing by it for generations!

Of course, MOISTURIZE!

My go-to moisturizer is doTERRA’s Hydrating Creme. It makes my skin feel so good. Frankincense essential oil and Rose essential oil are key for any sun spots, cycle-related acne and scars. Also Immortelle, which just rolls on my dark spots and makes them lovely again! Yarrow Pom is also fabulous for helping my skin glow.

A good, clean foundation is also key. There’s no point in cleaning your insides with whole foods and vitamins, if you’re poisoning the outside with toxin-laced foundation.
